Biographies

Regina Larkin

(Choreographer, Teacher, Dancer) was the last selected dancer by Joyce Trisler in 1979, and currently is the Artistic Director of the Joyce Trisler Danscompany with Producing Director, Carmen De Lavallade. Celebrating twenty-eight years, the Danscompany preserves the dances of Ms. Trisler and the legacy of Lester Horton. As described by Jennifer Dunning of the New York Times, "Emotional eloquence was the key, she at times looking like a portrait of a somewhat less self involved female version of Nijinsky's Faun. Regina Larkin moved with just the right clipped edge of boldness and delicacy."

Internationally recognized for her mesmerizing performances in Germany, Argentina, Taiwan and Iraq, South and Central America's, the Mid East and Asia Ms. Larkin is on faculty in NYC at Peridance Center since 1997 and is a Professor of dance at Adelphi University Performing Arts since 1977. Presently she is an associate under the auspices of Director, Frank Augustyn. She has also taught for eight years at the Alvin Ailey American Dance Center, Dance Space Inc. and Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival School. Her residencies are held at Colleges and Universities throughout the USA, Europe and Taiwan and her choreography has been presented in New York City at the Joyce Theater, Joyce Soho, St. Mark's Church Danspace, Fiorello La Guardia High School Fiorello Festival, The Theatre at the Riverside Church, the Kennedy Center in Washington DC and the Prague festival, to mention a few.

Her dances reside with the Joyce Trisler Danscompany, Ballet East Dance Theatre of Austin, Texas, Taipei Dance Theatre, Albany Berkshire Ballet and at Dance Adelphi in Garden City, New York. Ms. Larkin's staging of Joyce Trisler's dances are with Los Angeles American Repertory Dance Company, Dallas Black Dance Theater, Ailey II, The University of California at Santa Barbara, Adelphi University Performing Arts and the Julliard School. She is an active member of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights Aids Dancers Responding to Aids. Regina serves on dance panels for Lincoln Center Library of Performing Arts, the Dance Film and Archives Association, New York State Council on the Arts and the New Jersey State Council on the Arts. She has also received NYSCA Decentralization grant awards for Lower Manhattan and the town of Jefferson, New York by providing Pro/Youth Arts initiatives for urban and rural communities that began in 1984. She co directed the Denishawn Repertory Dancers with Jane Sherman and created the Larkspur Dance Theatre collaborating with the late artists Roberto Pace, Christopher Culpo, Adrienne Borbely, Frank Manna, Damien Bassman and Judith Pottle. Ms. Larkin received her BA in dance and MA in Fine Arts from Adelphi University.

 

Carmen de Lavallade

Carmen De Lavallade: Aside from a long career in dance, and working with some of its most exciting choreographers, such as Lester Horton (her mentor), John Butler, Geoffrey Holder, and Alvin Ailey, to name a few, Miss de Lavallade's choreographic and acting credits include the Yale Repertory Theatre's productions of Seven Deadly Sins, a Midsummer Night's Dream, and The Tempest. She received the Clarence Bayfield award presented by Actors Equity for her role of Emilia in Othello with Earle Hyman. Miss de Lavallade first glorified the Metropolitan Opera stage as premier dancer in Samson and Delilah and Aida, then returned triumphantly as choreographer for the 1990-91, 1992, and 1993 productions of Porgy and Bess, Lucia di Lammermoor, Die Miestersinger and Rusalka. In 1994 she received an honorary Doctor of Fine Arts from the Boston Conservatory of Music and for three years was Director of the dance department at Adelphi University. Miss de Lavallade can be seen in a cameo role in the John Sayles film Lone Star and Big Daddy starring Adam Sandler. She directed Lena: The Legacy at Avery Fisher Hall, appeared in Debbie Allen's production of Soul Possessed at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC and choreographed the ballet Sweet Bitter Love for the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre. She is presently performing with the "Complexions" dance company and appeared at the Joyce Theater's series Altogether Different with the dance trio "Paradigm" with Gus Solomons Jr. and Dudley Williams.

 

Amy Brous

Amy Brous born and raised on Long Island, NY, began performing as a gymnast representing the United States Gymnastics Federation, receiving State, Regional and National champion awards as a featured balance beam athlete. She started her dance training with Regina Larkin at Adelphi University along with notable artists Norman Walker, Cathy McCann, Gelsey Kirkland and Carmen de Lavallade. A cum laude graduate at Adelphi, she immediately joined the Danscompany in 1996. She has performed several roles and is the Martha Graham character in Ms. Trisler's Four Against The Gods. Amy also dances Regina Larkin's Quiet City to Aaron Copland's sensitive score as well as Am In Dire Straits by Regina Larkin, music of Miles Davis with Geoffrey Holder narrative. Ms Brous dances with the Soundance Repertory, Sean Curran and Chris DC Ramos Dance Company. She has done special projects with Peter Pucci and recently become on faculty at Adelphi University where she teaches Movement for Actors and Beginning Horton Technique for dancers. Amy is instrumental in the Danscompany as a rehearsal assistant and she continues to coach youth in gymnastics for prestigious and competitive teams on Long Island. The discipline, dedication and beauty of Ms. Brous enhances the Danscompany.
